We are pleased to announce that the Krishna P. Singh Technology Campus in Camden, NJ has been selected to receive several awards for its quality, complexity and swiftness of construction, including the LEED Honor and the CMAA Project Achievement Award. The Krishna P. Singh Technology Campus is a 50-acre state-of-the-art campus, which features a 7-story engineering office building, a heavy manufacturing plant, and a light manufacturing plant. These manufacturing plants bring Holtec’s total manufacturing floor space to nearly 1.5 million square feet.

USDOE Announces Financial Support for Holtec’s Advanced Laser Welding Process for New and Operating Reactors

We are pleased to announce that the USDOE has accepted Holtec’s proposal to advance and commercialize a cutting-edge technology known as hybrid laser arc welding for use in nuclear structures and systems. Our own SMR-160 small modular reactor program will be a principal beneficiary of the fruits of this R&D program.   We anticipate that this advancement will help improve the quality of welds in the entire range of critical service components, from thick-walled reactor vessels to thin-walled multi-purpose canisters. Brian Farnsworth, Holtec’s principal subject matter expert and noted innovator of welding and non-destructive examination technologies, stated, “this project will allow us to investigate and develop very low weld heat input techniques coupled with grain size control (refinement), mechanical properties optimization, high joint fill rates utilizing narrow gap, and very close control of weld heat-affected zone size.” (more…)

Holtec Signs Contract with CNNC Everclean for Turnkey Supply of Seven Transport Cask Packages

Beijing, China, May 29, 2018: Reflecting the significance of the occasion, Holtec, CNNC Everclean and its parent, CNNC Environmental Protection Corporation, and CNEIC executives assembled to sign the contract that envisages Holtec to deliver its latest model transport casks and associated ancillaries by November 2020. The cask model selected by Everclean is HI-STAR 100MB which transports fuel in both MPC and “bare basket” with a wide range of initial enrichments and burn-up. Designed to transport the whole spectrum of PWR fuel-damaged and in-tact, this cask is intended to serve as a workhorse to aggregate used fuel from America’s 73 nuclear sites to a single interim storage facility in Southeast New Mexico called HI-STORE CISF. HI-STORE CISF, which uses Holtec’s threat-defying subterranean storage system, is currently undergoing regulatory review. (more…)

Holtec International has launched the licensing of an autonomous consolidated interim storage facility (CISF) in southeastern New Mexico. The facility, named HI-STORE CISF, will provide a significant step on the path to resolve the nation’s long standing used nuclear fuel storage issue by providing a safe, secure, temporary, retrievable, and centralized facility for storage of used nuclear fuel and high level radioactive waste. The HI-STORE CISF seeks to fulfill the goal to aggregate the used nuclear fuel canisters presently scattered across the country at dozens of independent used fuel storage installations into one suitable location, in preparation for future relocation to a final repository. The license application for the HI-STORE CISF was submitted to the USNRC on March 31, 2017 and accepted by the USNRC in February 2018 (USNRC Docket No. 72-1051). ELEA, a coalition of the cities of Hobbs and Carlsbad and the counties of Eddy and Lea, is the official host of the HI-STORE CISF. (more…)

Ameren’s Callaway Uses the HI-STORM UMAX System to Store Used Nuclear Fuel

First conceived after the shock of the September 11th terrorist attacks, Holtec’s record of storing used nuclear fuel in a retrievable configuration below-the-ground is now 12 years old. In 2006, Humboldt Bay became the first plant to feature subterranean storage, which is so unobtrusive and produces such negligible dose that the path to the beach runs in close proximity to the ISFSI! The HI-STAR transportation systems stored at Humboldt are ready for shipment any time.
