A New World Record for Rapid Transfer of All Fissile Material From a Decommissioning Plant’s Spent Fuel Pool is Set at Pilgrim 

On December 13, the last multi-purpose canister containing Pilgrim’s spent nuclear fuel was placed in dry storage emptying its Reactor Building of all fissile material and setting a new industry record for the speediest transfer of the plant’s used nuclear fuel to on-site storage.

Palisades and Big Rock Point Licenses Transfer to Holtec, Approved by the USNRC Today, Enlarges Holtec’s Decommissioning Fleet to Seven Reactor Units

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) approved the transfer of the Palisades Power Plant to Holtec International after the facility permanently shuts down in the spring of 2022. The approval also allows the transfer of Entergy’s decommissioned Big Rock Point facility near Charlevoix, Michigan, where only the Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation (ISFSI) remains.
