Safe and Efficient Decommissioning
Holtec Decommissioning International, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Holtec International, is dedicated to the safe and efficient decommissioning of shuttered nuclear power plants. Our approach to decommissioning is to begin and complete the physical work of decontamination and dismantlement decades sooner than if the current nuclear plant owner retains ownership of the plant.
Holtec Decommissioning International is the licensed operator for Holtec-owned nuclear power plants and provides the licensee oversight of the decommissioning work that is performed. We also manage the decommissioning trust fund, as well as other owner interests, such as licensing strategy, insurance, land and government interface.

Our Decommissioning Approach
Holtec Decommissioning International utilizes a fleet management approach for decommissioning multiple sites. This includes standardized processes and procedures for improved safety, increased productivity and the minimization of duplicative managerial costs.
Enter into agreements with generating companies in advance of plant shutdown
Submit initial regulatory requests
Work with the site decommissioning organization to plan activities
In coordination with the current plant owner/operator, work with state and local officials and communicate with stakeholders
Following certification of permanent defueling, implement approved license transfer
Plant personnel become Holtec Decommissioning International employees

Our Fleet
Oyster Creek Generating Station
Oyster Creek Generating Station is located in Forked River, New Jersey. Oyster Creek permanently shut down in September 2018.
Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station
Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station is located in historic Plymouth, Massachusetts. Pilgrim permanently shut down in May 2019.
Indian Point Energy Center
Indian Point Energy Center is located in Buchanan, New York. Indian Point was shut down permanently by Entergy in April 2021.
