Wet Fuel Storage Systems
State-of-the-Art Solutions for Fuel Storage
Holtec International is the world’s most experienced developer of fuel storage racks, with designs in over 120 operating reactors since 1986. In the U.S., every BWR fuel rack installed since 1986 and every PWR fuel rack installed since 1994 has been a Holtec design—making Holtec the sole provider of wet storage systems nationwide. This leadership is built on continuous innovation and unmatched client service.
Innovations Driving the Market

High Density Spent Fuel Storage Racks
Holtec is the pioneer in the development, NRC licensing and deployment of freestanding high-density racks. These prismatic stainless steel weldments are available anchored, freestanding and quasi-freestanding.

Shielded Transfer Cask
Holtec’s Shielded Transfer Cask provides a solution for wet transfer operations between two spent fuel pools located at one site. It keeps the fuel under water throughout the transfer process.

Device for Reactivity Mitigation
Holtec’s Device for Reactivity Mitigation (DREAM) inserts provide a robust and economical alternative to moderate fuel reactivity without replacing existing racks.
Holtec’s Wet Storage Installations Around the Globe
Every BWR rack licensed and installed in the U.S. since 1986 has been a Holtec rack; every PWR rack bought and installed in the U.S. since 1994 has been a Holtec rack. Holtec fuel racks are the principal means for wet storage of spent fuel discharged by LWRs in the USA, Mexico, Brazil, Korea, Taiwan, and the United Kingdom.

The Industry’s Mainstay for Reactivity Control
Holtec not only pioneered the technology to increase existing spent fuel pool storage capacity but introduced the industry’s first porosity-free metal matrix composite called Metamic™. For the past 20 years, Holtec’s affiliate, Orrvilon, has manufactured this neutron absorber used in the racks.
