Moving a loaded HI-STORM or a loaded HI-TRAC transfer cask through a nuclear plant’s “truck bay” is the preferred operation mode for reasons of ALARA, ease of handling, and protection of the MPC. The exit (roll-up) door at many nuclear plans poses the vertical opening limitation that requires that the “dolly” needed to move the loaded cask out the exit door be as short in height as possible. To meet this objective, Holtec developed the so-called Zero Profile Transporter (ZPT) that allows the cask to traverse the truck bay while literally hugging the surface on which the cask is being moved. The ZPT is a “zero height dolly,” i.e., the door openings need only be a smidgen taller than the height of the cask.
