Abstract: Reliability and thennal efficiency aspects of operating nuclear power plants are assayed through published data and direct contacts with plant system engineers. In particular, the impact of component failures on plant heat rate 4s studied in-depth. Reliability of components such as Feedwater Heaters, Moisture separator reheaters, Condensers, Valves, and other miscellaneous equipment is examined. A brief discussion on turbine malfunctioning is also given.
It is found that many operational problems are rooted in inadequate equipment monitoring facility in the plants. Some remedial measures to improve plant efficiency and reliability are proposed.
