Abstract: In-plane thermal expansion of mating flange elements of heat exchangers can in-duce severe bending stresses in the body bolts. A design-oriented solution is proposed here to rapidly evaluate the bolt stress levels. The method is limited to axisymmetric loadings; i.e., multiple tube pass configurations are excluded.
