Stuart Crooks is a brilliant hands-on engineer and an inspirational engineering leader. He has dedicated himself to the civil nuclear industry for 35 years.
Stuart is widely known for his role in directing Hinkley Point C for EDF Energy. He was the operational leader for the UK’s entire fleet of civil nuclear power plants. He is a champion of gender diversity and the provision of opportunities for young people. In his previous role running the fleet of civil nuclear power plants, Stuart drove innovative solutions regarding safety, surpassing international nuclear operation performance standards, winning recognition from the Office for Nuclear Regulation and World Association of Nuclear Operators.
Stuart joined British Energy in 1986 initially as an apprentice and progressed through various roles in Advanced Gas Reactors Stations including Dungeness, Hartlepool and Heysham and became Safety & Technical Director in 2009.
Following 5 successful years as Chief Technical Officer, he was appointed MD Generation, responsible for EDF Energy UK fleet of nuclear, coal, gas, renewables and renewable generating assets.
Stuart was awarded a CBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List in 2019 for services to Nuclear Energy.
