Mano K. Nazar is president and chief nuclear officer of the nuclear division at NextEra Energy, Inc. headquartered in Juno Beach, Florida. He is responsible for safe operation of the company’s eight nuclear units at the St. Lucie, Turkey Point, Seabrook Station, Duane Arnold Energy Center, and Point Beach nuclear power plants. Most recently, he also led the successful implementation of extended power uprates at three of NextEra Energy’s nuclear sites, adding more than 700 megawatts to the nuclear fleet’s generation capacity. Mr. Nazar joined NextEra Energy in November 2007.
Mr. Nazar is a leader in nuclear fleet excellence with more than 30 years of extensive nuclear industry experience. Prior to joining NextEra Energy, he served as senior vice president and chief nuclear officer at American Electric Power. Before that, he was senior vice president of nuclear operations for Nuclear Management Company, where he was responsible for Westinghouse reactor sites. He also served as site vice president at Prairie Island Nuclear Plant during his time with NMC. Prior to that, Mr. Nazar held increasingly responsible positions with Duke Power. He has led several sites in achieving excellence in performance.
Mr. Nazar has a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He served as chairman of the Industry Nuclear Power Council (NPC) Executive Committee, the National Academy for Nuclear Training’s National Nuclear Accrediting Board and the Nuclear Energy Institute’s Regulatory Issues Working Group. Mr. Nazar was elected as the 2006 Nuclear Professional of the Year and received the prestigious 2007 WANO Nuclear Excellence Award.
