Dennis Koehl was named President, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Nuclear Officer of STP Nuclear Operating Company in October 2012. In this role, he is responsible for the safe and reliable operation of Units 1 & 2 as well as the overall strategic direction of the company.
Prior to his current position, Koehl was Senior Vice President and Chief Nuclear Officer for Xcel Energy, responsible for activities at the Prairie Island and Monticello nuclear plants.
Koehl joined Nuclear Management Company in 2004 as Site Vice President at Point Beach nuclear plant in Wisconsin. He came to Xcel Energy in October 2007.
Koehl has more than 35 years of experience in the nuclear industry, including positions of increasing responsibility at Tennessee Valley Authority’s Sequoyah and Watts Bar nuclear plants. He has a diverse background in operations, assessment, engineering and plant performance.
Koehl serves on the INPO board of directors. He served as the chairman of the Nuclear Energy Institute’s Nuclear Strategic Issue Advisory Committee through May 2015 and continues to serve on the 12-member U.S. Fukushima Response Steering Committee. Koehl is an executive member of the Electric Power Research Institute’s Nuclear Power Council. He also serves on the board of directors for the Matagorda County United Way and the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station Advisory Board.

He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineer- ing from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. He also served in the U.S. Navy, aboard the U.S.S. Patrick Henry nuclear-powered submarine.
