“Topping-off” Ceremony Marks Completion of the Manufacturing Facility Structure at the Holtec Technology Campus on the Delaware Waterfront in Camden, NJ

Senior local and New Jersey state officials, led by Lieutenant Governor Kim Guadagno, celebrated the “beam topping-off” ceremony, along with some 200 assembled county residents, members of the media and Holtec’s professionals hailing a major milestone for the Holtec Technology Campus (HTC). The last, approximately 115 foot-long girder, signed by most attendees, was hoisted into place completing the structural backbone of the Campus’ main fabrication plant. Holtec’s investment to build and equip the fifty-acre campus, now topping $300 million, has caused a boom in the local construction industry, which will evolve into long term jobs when the plant opens for business in less than a year. In addition to the Manufacturing Facility, construction is also progressing rapidly on the Corporate Engineering Office, a light Manufacturing Facility, a Small Modular Reactor test loop, and a number of ancillary amenities within the Campus.

Mayor Redd emceed the ceremony, greeting the audience in words that reflect the aspirations of the local populace; “As this project moves closer to completion, it will result in new opportunities for Camden residents. This project is positively impacting our workforce by helping residents develop the skill-sets necessary to sustain a successful career.” Mayor Redd praised Holtec’s commitment to the revitalization of the City of Camden, and Holtec’s commitment to education, noting the start of a training program implemented in collaboration with local institutions. Nine graduates of this program have already been hired, and many more are in the recruitment pipeline. Camden City Council President and a Camden native, Mr. Frank Moran, added in a written statement, “I commend Holtec for taking the initiative to engage the community. Our residents appreciate the opportunities presented and are taking full advantage. The Holtec campus is transformative and will be a catalyst for further development in Camden and the region.” Camden County Freeholder Director, Mr. Louis Cappelli, also added a written statement, “The Holtec International project on Broadway is a transformational occurrence for the county, city and the South Jersey Port Corporation. This development, on the former site of the New York Ship Building Company, is a redefining moment in manufacturing for the region and the Delaware Valley. In the coming years, Holtec will become one of the state’s largest employers by creating thousands of new jobs in cutting edge technology.”

During his uplifting remarks, NJ Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner, Mr. Bob Martin, observed approvingly that Holtec’s work at Camden is reaching other parts of the state, serving as a model for rejuvenating economically depressed cities and regions. Commissioner Bob Martin stated, “Under the Christie Administration, we have transformed DEP, so that job creators, such as Holtec International, can get the permits they need quickly and efficiently, while also protecting our environment.” He further praised Dr. Kris Singh, President and CEO of Holtec, for his vision to create domestic employment in the manufacturing sector. Dr. Kris Singh, proclaimed to the applause of the audience, “Camden we are here – we have arrived to help transform this city.” Dr. Singh went on to highlight Holtec’s business-model, a meritocracy founded on hard work and innovation, which has underlain the Company’s continued success.

PSEG President and COO, Mr. William Levis, peered into the future as he spoke about the current travails of the nuclear industry and the catalyzing role that the Campus is destined to play in nuclear power’s rise to meet the world’s rapidly growing demand for clean energy.

Closing out the ceremony, Lt. Governor, Kim Guadagno, spoke eloquently of the Campus as a manifestation of “what we have in common: the need to educate our children, the need to find them good quality-paying jobs, and to work together to bridge the gaps between all of our cultures … That’s what Holtec has brought to the city of Camden,” she said, praising Holtec’s commitment in the form of the largest private investment into the city of Camden and nearly the largest in the state, and for working closely with the local institutions to rebuild Camden and the local region.
