Holtec International is pleased to announce our subsidiary SMR, LLC, has established a Technical Advisory Board consisting of national experts steeped in the design, operations, safety, and regulatory aspects of nuclear energy. The Technical Advisory Board will help ensure that HI-SMUR 140 embodies the accumulated industry expertise and combined experience to the fullest extent. The mission of the Board is to critique the system from all aspects, specifically concerning safety, reliability, service life, and regulatory compliance. The names of the Board members (in alphabetical order), their affiliation, and professional accomplishments are provided below.

Pierre Oneid, the Holtec executive named President of SMR, Inc., will serve as the Board’s secretary. The Board will meet as often as the membership deems necessary. Meeting minutes will be saved in the Company’s configured control system and all action items will be tracked as set forth in the Company’s QA Program. The Company will shortly be announcing the designated architect engineer for the HI-SMUR program, whose sponsoring executive will also have a seat on the Advisory Board.

John Herron

John Herron

Mr. John Herron is the President, CEO, and CNO of Entergy Nuclear which operates the second largest fleet of nuclear units in the nation. After a six year teaching stint in the U.S. Navy (1972-1978), Mr. Herron began his industrial career at VY and began establishing a distinguished record of performance with increasing responsibilities at Cooper, Sequoyah, Browns Ferry, and over the past 10 years, at Entergy. Mr. Herron currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO) and on the Nuclear Strategic Issues Advisory Committee (NSIAC) of NEI.

Andrew Kadak

Dr. Kadak is Director and Principal of Exponent Failure Analysis Associates. Prior to joining Exponent in 2010, Dr. Kadak was a Professor of the Practice of Nuclear Engineering at MIT, where much of his research interests were in small modular reactors. Dr. Kadak was also President and CEO of Yankee Atomic Electric Company, where he was responsible for the operations of the Yankee plant, as well as engineering and technical support for all New England nuclear plants. Dr. Kadak is a past President of the American Nuclear Society and currently serves on the U.S. Nuclear Waste Technology Review Board having been appointed by President Bush.

William Levis

William Levis

Since 2007, Mr. William Levis has served as the President and COO of PSEG Power, which is responsible for generating and trading electrical power from both the company’s nuclear and fossil plants. A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and a commander in the Naval Reserves early in his career, Mr. Levis has an illustrious record of improving the operational performance of several nuclear units including, Brunswick, Pickering, and in the 1990’s, as the Operational Chief of Exelon’s mid-Atlantic units. Mr. Levis holds an SRO license and is a registered Professional Engineer.

Mike Pacilio

As Exelon Nuclear President and CNO, Mr. Pacilio leads America’s largest and the world’s third largest fleet of nuclear plants. Mr. Pacilio’s entire professional career is with Exelon, where he has led an illustrious career playing an increasingly more significant role over the decades in ensuring the highest levels of performance and safety of plants under his watch. Certified as an SRO and trained at the nation’s elite institutions for executive management, Mr. Pacilio is an inspirational leader who continues to make a lasting contribution to Exelon’s culture of excellence.

Loren Plisco

Loren Plisco

A consummate nuclear regulator, Mr. Plisco, now retired from the NRC after over three decades of distinguished service, is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and Johns Hopkins University. Mr. Loren Plisco has held senior executive positions at the NRC including that of the Deputy Regional Administrator for Construction in the NRC’s Region II Office in Atlanta, GA where he directed the implementation of the inspection and safety oversight programs for the U.S. commercial nuclear facility construction projects. Mr. Plisco is the recipient of the coveted Meritorious Senior Executive Award from the President of the United States in 2002 and 2009.
