Holtec International is pleased to announce the signing of a long-term Alliance Agreement with Southern Nuclear of Birmingham, Alabama. Under the Agreement, Holtec will provide Southern’s nuclear plants a broad array of goods and services in its areas of core competency (such as used fuel management equipment and services, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, structural weldments, and engineering services) with provisions for providing priority access to Holtec’s resources.
Southern Nuclear’s six operating nuclear units (Hatch, Farley, and Vogtle) are served by Holtec’s HI-STORM and HI-STAR systems. Both Farley and Hatch have operating ISFSIs, while work on Vogtle’s ISFSI is currently underway. Southern Nuclear’s Vogtle site is also expected to herald the rebirth of nuclear energy by commissioning two new reactor units, America’s first in this century, by 2016.
